Dr. Jeffrey Ramsey

DVM

Dr. Jeffrey Ramsey grew up in Youngstown, Ohio, once a thriving steel city in northeastern Ohio. His father was transferred to New Jersey where Dr. Ramsey attended Rutgers University, Cook College, and graduated with a BS in Animal Science in 1978. He received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from the University of Missouri in 1984. Dr. Ramsey has had a taste of nomad life early on in his career by living in many states, including Ohio, New Jersey, Minnesota, Florida, Maryland, and Virginia before settling in Boston for the last 27 years. He has worked in many different practices from large to small and most recently owned and managed his own veterinary practice for 16 years. Dr. Ramsey strongly believes in compassionate personalized medicine and surgery. He has watched clients bring their children in with a new puppy or kitten and then has watched them grow up and have pets of their own. He takes a special interest in helping abandoned, neglected, and homeless animals and working with shelters and rescues when possible. He has particular interests in ophthalmology, dermatology and urgent care medicine. He is excited to begin a new venture at Charlestown Veterinary Hospital and anxious to meet many new clients and their pets.

During his free time, Dr. Ramsey enjoys bicycling around local trails, is an avid golfer, maintains his koi pond, works on his antique cars and bicycles, does projects around his victorian house and travels when possible. One fun fact is that he is a self proclaimed mini hoarder, or collector of stuff as he prefers to call it. His ‘stuff’ varies from a collection of bicycles, cars, typewriters, books, golf clubs, and yard sale finds, etc. Dr. Ramsey has traveled extensively to various countries including the Philippines, Sweden, Chile, but his most exotic adventure was hiking the Himalayas on his visit to Katmandu, Nepal. He also has fond memories of his visit to Prague, The Czech Republic, the country of his native ancestry. Dr. Ramsey resides in Dorchester with three feisty felines, Raptor, Zambesi and Peep, and a pond full of koi.

John

Veterinary Care Coordinator

Hi! My name is John Ficek, and I’m a Veterinary Care Coordinator. I handle appointment scheduling and take care of client support needs. I recently served a five-year enlistment in the U.S. Army as a broadcast engineer and paratrooper, and I am currently working on a degree in applied mathematics. I have always loved animals so it’s a treat to be able to interact with the patients on occasion and assist in whatever ways I can!

Devyn

Veterinary Care Coordinator

Hi, I’m Devyn, and I recently joined the team at Charlestown Veterinary Hospital as a Veterinary Care Specialist. In my role, I assist in making sure your pets receive the best care, from welcoming them at the front desk to ensuring their well-being post-visit.

Outside of the clinic, my interests span a diverse range. I’m a passionate musician and artist, I like hiking in the great outdoors, going to concerts, and experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen. While I may be new to the veterinary world, my dedication to animals and a welcoming smile are always here to greet you and your furry friends!
