Dr. Jeffrey Ramsey

DVM

Dr. Jeffrey Ramsey grew up in Youngstown, Ohio, once a thriving steel city in northeastern Ohio. His father was transferred to New Jersey where Dr. Ramsey attended Rutgers University, Cook College, and graduated with a BS in Animal Science in 1978. He received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from the University of Missouri in 1984. Dr. Ramsey has had a taste of nomad life early on in his career by living in many states, including Ohio, New Jersey, Minnesota, Florida, Maryland, and Virginia before settling in Boston for the last 27 years. He has worked in many different practices from large to small and most recently owned and managed his own veterinary practice for 16 years. Dr. Ramsey strongly believes in compassionate personalized medicine and surgery. He has watched clients bring their children in with a new puppy or kitten and then has watched them grow up and have pets of their own. He takes a special interest in helping abandoned, neglected, and homeless animals and working with shelters and rescues when possible. He has particular interests in ophthalmology, dermatology and urgent care medicine. He is excited to begin a new venture at Charlestown Veterinary Hospital and anxious to meet many new clients and their pets.

During his free time, Dr. Ramsey enjoys bicycling around local trails, is an avid golfer, maintains his koi pond, works on his antique cars and bicycles, does projects around his victorian house and travels when possible. One fun fact is that he is a self proclaimed mini hoarder, or collector of stuff as he prefers to call it. His ‘stuff’ varies from a collection of bicycles, cars, typewriters, books, golf clubs, and yard sale finds, etc. Dr. Ramsey has traveled extensively to various countries including the Philippines, Sweden, Chile, but his most exotic adventure was hiking the Himalayas on his visit to Katmandu, Nepal. He also has fond memories of his visit to Prague, The Czech Republic, the country of his native ancestry. Dr. Ramsey resides in Dorchester with three feisty felines, Raptor, Zambesi and Peep, and a pond full of koi.
